Everything you need to know about hiring a dozer

What is a dozer?

The bulldozer (more commonly known as a dozer) is a type of crawler equipment, which means that it runs on tracks. The dozer is fitted with a metal plate (also called a blade) that is used to push dirt or other materials on a construction site.

What can a dozer do?

Dozers can be utilised for a variety of jobs, including:

  • Construction
  • Road works
  • Mining and quarrying
  • Farming
  • Forestry
  • Military use

Some dozers are fitted with a claw-like attachment on their rear called a ripper. These rippers are used to loosen compacted dirt and other materials.

Types of dozers

Dozers come in different sizes and types. The following are the types of dozers you can hire for the job:

  • Tracked dozer – this is the most common type and is the most standard. Tracked dozers come in different sizes, from D3 (the smallest) to D11 (the largest). The tracked dozer is ideal to use on most terrains, that’s why this is the type you commonly see on-site.
  • Wheeled or rubber tyred dozer – instead of tracks, these dozers use wheels or rubber tyres for increased mobility. This is ideal for rough terrain sites.
  • Swamp dozer – this type of dozer is fitted with tracks especially made for increased mobility on muddy or wet terrains

How much does hiring a dozer cost?

The cost of hiring a dozer will depend on the type or size of the equipment you will need, as well as the hire duration. Hiring it with or without an operator will also have an effect on the cost of hire.
