Laurence Michael (Mick) and Teri Byrne founded Byrne Trailers in 1974. Today Mick continues to be CEO and heads our engineering team while Teri holds the position of General Manager. Both Mick and Teri have seen the company grow from small beginnings in Peak Hill, NSW to now hold the position of market leader in the manufacture of Livestock Trailers nationally. Extensive manufacturing facilities were established in Wagga Wagga in 1988 with expansion to Queensland in 1994 with the setting up of a manufacturing and service depot in Toowoomba.
Mick has extensive experience in the design and manufacture of heavy transport equipment and has engineering qualifications. He is credited with designing and commercialising a number of revolutionary monoque trailer designs incorporating the 4x2 convertible livestock trailer, the 2 deck cattle trailer with a first in the industry to introduce air-bag suspensions to livestock trailers. This is well recognised widely with the BYRNE 'NON BRUISE' and 'RIDING ON AIR' logo and has since been adopted as industry standard. Mick has served on various agricultural advisory boards both to Government and Industry organisations including:
- 1989 Assisted in an advisory capacity to the NT Government and the late Robert Holmes a'Court with regard to live cattle exports and transport within Indonesia and other animal welfare issues in opening live markets to that country.
- Assisted in an advisory capacity to NT Government and NT cattle exporters with regards to stress free transport of live cattle
- 1993 Appointment to Advisory Committee to Queensland Transport to assist, advice and make recommendations with regard to safe loading, volume loading of livestock in Queensland (5 years).
- 1999 appointed by the Australian Government and the Department of Primary Industries QLD to research and advice on the live sheep trade bans to Saudi Arabia directly resulting in the resumption of live sheep trade.
Teri has been responsible for the administrative and financial oversight of the company and has played a pivotal role in the growth of the company to its present position. This was managed while Teri had the task of raising 4 young boys, 3 of whom have gone on to hold key positions in the company. Ben currently resides in Toowoomba, supporting both our Queensland Manager and Engineering Department after having three years experience in a stand alone facility in Kattanning, WA under the stewardship of Mick. Matthew heads compliance liasing with the Department of Transport and Infrastructure to ensure all aspects of design and manufacturing complies to industry standards. Jonathan is the Operations Manager of the Wagga Factory as well as National Sales Co-ordinator.
Teri has also had the responsibility for marketing the company both within Australia and Overseas. Through extensive involvement in conferences, seminars, field days and displays, Teri has seen Byrne Trailers become a nationally recognised brand name in the industry.
