ATR
Founded in 1989 by James Leary & Mark Reimer (two men that didn’t mind getting their hands dirty), All Types of Rubbish was established to cater for a void in the waste removal market. While they didn’t collect typical household scraps and various other things that end up in the family garbage bin, they collected almost everything else.
Rapidly gaining clients after one year of business, Mark & James bought another truck & employed two drivers to pick up the rubbish whilst they concentrated on the front office. But while they promoted great service & efficient collection, the two drivers sometimes let them down. So a catalyst for change had become necessary to ensure their philosophies & principals were maintained. Mark & James then sub-contracted two trucks to owner-drivers, which enabled them to focus on control of the administration & ensuring their service remained at the highest levels.
Without realizing it at the time, the seeds to a franchise were being sown. In 1991 “All Types Of Rubbish” was to become a fully-fledged franchise providing waste removal services focusing only on trucks & skip bins.
In 1993 Steve Hardy (current owner & Director) bought into ATR as a franchisee. Steve picked up a truck from an existing franchisee wanting to move on & worked it himself before expanding with additional trucks and services two years into his 10-year contract. Nearing the end of the 10-year period the business had grown to 4 trucks & 10 staff members. Other services including demolition & site labour had been introduced to meet the demands of their ever expanding client base & the diversity of tasks requiring solutions.
In 2001 an overseas investor, seeing the great potential, had bought the ATR franchise group from its current owners at the time & decided that whilst the brand & services would be retained, the franchise would become a company run operation with employees & not franchisees.
